These bonds were originally issued on January 21, 2020, at a price of \u20b93,966 per gram. As per media reports, in the FY 2023\u201324, investors bought <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etnownews.com\/personal-finance\/sovereign-gold-bonds-investors-bullish-rs-27k-cr-sgbs-bought-in-fy24-what-makes-them-attractive-top-points-article-110595845\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SGBs worth \u20b927,031 crore<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the year. This was more than four times the amount invested in 2022\u201323.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we look at the entire history of the scheme, SGBs were first introduced in November 2015. Since then, the government has raised a total of \u20b972,274 crore through these bonds, which was collected across 67 different bond issues (called \u201ctranches\u201d). This amount is equal to 146.96 tonnes of gold.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Okay_But_What_Are_The_Reasons_for_Such_Immense_Popularity\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, But What Are The Reasons for Such Immense Popularity?\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that SGBs offered \u201csovereign guarantee\u201d and carried minimal default risk. Additionally, investors did not face the risks linked to holding physical gold. For example, there is no need to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Store gold<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check its purity<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay for insurance<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Investors only invested money, and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/goldenpi.com\/blog\/sovereign-gold-bond\/can-sovereign-gold-bonds-provide-a-hedge-against-inflation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bond value moved in line with gold prices<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Existing SGB series are listed on the BSE and NSE.
