National Highways Authority of India

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was set up by an act of parliament, NHAI Act, 1988.It is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of National Highways totalling over 92,851 kilometres in length. In February 1995, it was formally made an autonomous agency of the Government of India. It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for satellite mapping of Indian Highways.

It was responsible for the construction of the Golden Quadrilateral, connecting the major cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, launched in 2001 and completed in 2012, being the fifth longest highway project in the world.

The current chairman is Mr. Deepak Kumar, IAS.
