Hyderabad Metro Rail Project was given to Larsen & Toubro Limited by then-Andhra Pradesh government. L & T established a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called L & T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (hereafter referred to as "The Company") to carry out the project on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) basis.

The company had signed a concession agreement with the then- government of Andhra Pradesh on September 4th , 2010 and completed the financial closure for the project March 1, 2011 in a record breaking six month time frame.The total amount of debt needed for the project has been approved by a consortium of 10 banks, chaired by State Bank of India.This Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative for non-power infrastructure is the largest finance tie-up in India
