Tata Motors Limited promotes TMF Holdings Limited. TMFHL is a subsidiary of the Tata Group, which was founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Tata. The Tata group is a global conglomerate headquartered in India that consists of 30 companies spanning ten industries. The company operates in over 100 countries across six continents, with the mission of 'improving the quality of life of the communities, the company serves globally through long-term stakeholder value creation based on Leadership with Trust. In 2019-20, the combined revenue of Tata companies was $106 billion (INR 7.5 trillion). These companies collectively employ over 750,000 people. As of March 31, 2020, there are 29 publicly traded Tata enterprises with a combined market capitalisation of $123 billion (INR 9.3 trillion).

TMFHL is supported by TML through regular equity infusions, management, and system support.TML also provides management support by having senior management on the board of TMFHL. On October 11, 2017, TMFHL received a certificate of registration as a CIC from the RBI.

TMFHL focuses its entire business on meeting the financial needs of TML group companies through investments, loans, guarantees, and leasing solutions. Furthermore, TMFHL is responsible for overseeing the various financial sector entities that are consolidated under it.

TMFHL has two operating subsidiaries i.e. Tata Motors Finance Limited and Tata Motors Finance Solutions Limited:

1.New Vehicles Finance Business:

a) Commercial Vehicles TMFL finances the entire range of Commercial vehicles to transporters, fleet owners, First Time users.

b) Passenger Cars - TMFL finances multiutility vehicles (Safari/ Sumo/ Hexa/ Nexon/ Harrier etc) and passenger cars (Indica/ Indigo/Zest, Bolt, Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Jaguar, Land Rover etc) mainly in the personal use segment and commercial taxi operators.

2. Insurance Support Services: TMFL helps its customers to have vehicles insurance.
